Accessibility statement
SkinCare.MD is committed to making this website usable by everyone, including people who rely on assistive technologies. Access to health information should not depend on ability.
Our commitment
This site is the virtual dermatology practice of Dr. Dennis Porto, MD. We work to keep skincare.md usable across the widest practical range of devices, browsers, and assistive technologies, and we treat accessibility as an ongoing responsibility rather than a one-time task.
Conformance
This website is built to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA published by the World Wide Web Consortium. WCAG Level AA is the standard referenced under Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act and by the U.S. Department of Justice in its rulemaking under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We describe this site as partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA, meaning most but not necessarily all of the success criteria are met. Where the default presentation does not meet a contrast threshold, the accessibility controls described below provide a conforming alternate version.
Accessibility features on this site
- Accessibility controlsA floating control panel is available on every screen, offering adjustable text size, a high-contrast mode, a reduced-motion setting, and a dyslexia-friendly typeface. Settings can be reset at any time.
- Keyboard navigationEvery interactive element can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone, and a visible focus indicator shows the current position.
- Skip-to-content linkA skip link is the first focusable item on the page, letting keyboard and screen-reader users bypass the navigation.
- Semantic structureThe page uses HTML5 landmarks — header, nav, main, footer — along with ARIA labels and a logical heading order, so assistive technologies can announce regions clearly.
- High-contrast modeWhen enabled, text and interactive elements are rendered at contrast ratios well above the 4.5:1 minimum required for Level AA.
- Resizable textText can be enlarged through the accessibility panel or by using the browser's own zoom, and the layout adapts responsively.
- Reduced motionThe site honors the operating system's "reduce motion" preference automatically, and motion can also be disabled manually. Animations are limited to subtle transitions and nothing that flashes or could trigger vestibular symptoms.
- Descriptive alternative textMeaningful images carry descriptive alt text; decorative elements are hidden from assistive technologies.
- FormsThe accessibility feedback form has visible labels, programmatic label associations, descriptive help text, and touch targets of at least 44×44 pixels.
- Link clarityLinks that open in a new tab are labeled as such for screen-reader users.
Color contrast
Body text, headings, and interactive controls on this site meet or exceed the 4.5:1 contrast ratio required for WCAG Level AA at normal text sizes. A high-contrast mode is additionally available in the accessibility panel for users who prefer stronger differentiation.
Known limitations
We want to be straightforward about where barriers may remain:
- Third-party servicesBooking, messaging, and product ordering are handled by outside platforms — including our patient portal and skincare fulfillment partner — which are governed by their own accessibility practices. If you encounter a barrier on one of those services, contact us and we will help you complete the task another way.
- Horizontal scrollingOn narrow screens, the credentials strip scrolls sideways without an explicit visual cue. The same information appears elsewhere on the page in a standard vertical layout.
How we test
This site is reviewed using manual keyboard-only navigation, browser zoom testing, and automated accessibility auditing tools. Testing is not exhaustive, and we welcome reports of issues we may have missed.
Feedback
If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this site, or need information from it in a different format, please write to us. We aim to respond within ten business days of receipt.
If you are an established patient, you may also raise the issue through your patient portal, where we will see it sooner.
Privacy
The accessibility feedback form above is the only form on this site. It is processed by Formspree, a third-party form service, and the information you submit is used solely to respond to your report. Please do not include health information in it.
No other personal information is collected by this website. Scheduling, messaging, and payment take place on separate third-party platforms, each governed by its own privacy policy and, where applicable, its own HIPAA obligations.
This site uses Google Analytics to measure general traffic patterns. No health information is transmitted to or stored by this website.
